ABOUT

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Daniel started his cello studies at age three in the MacPhail Center For Music, eventually studying privately with renowned cellist and Alexander Teacher, Käthe Jarka. His early training began at the Minnesota Youth Symphonies and Artaria Chamber Music School where he got the opportunity to work closely with the Artaria String Quartet and perform the North American Premiere of Guido López-Gavilán's work, "Mojito con Saoco."

With a passion for chamber music and collaboration, Daniel has been a frequent attendee of the International Cello Institute, Stringwood Chamber Festival, Chamber Music Conference and Composers Forum, and The Cello Seminar at Salem. Daniel has also spent summers at the Meadowmount School of Music, Sartory Chamber Music Institute, and Kinhaven Music Festival. Throughout his training, Daniel has traveled to New York, Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, and Český Krumlov and has been a two time prizewinner at the SPCO Chamber Music Competition

Through his experiences at The Cello Seminar and mentorship of Rhonda Rider and Laura Sewell, Daniel quickly realized his love of new music. Daniel collaborates frequently with composers Evan Judson, Samuel Mutter, and Aaron Lieberman and has premiered many of their works. Most recently he performed Evan Judson's Rhapsody "El Jaleo" for Cello and Piano and "Pantomime" for Violin and Cello, which was featured on Classical Minnesota Public Radio. Future plans include a cello ensemble performance later next year with 3 new commissioned works for cello trio, quartet, and quintet by Oberlin based composers.

While the world of performance has given Daniel his passion for music, he also is excited to be pursuing a career in Arts Administration. He is currently the Operations and Development Intern for the International Cello Institute and will be spending his 2022 Winter Term as the Marketing and Operations Intern for the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in NYC. Daniel is currently studying at Oberlin Conservatory and College, pursuing a BA in Cello Performance with Dmitry Kouzov, and an IM in Arts Administration with New Music.
